Energy Efficiency Strategies for New and Existing Commercial Buildings

This video presents an overview of how today's state-of-the-art commercial building systems such as lighting, HVAC, building envelope, and computer systems can be integrated into a highly efficient structure capable of reducing energy costs by up to 70% (compared to conventional commercial building designs).

While this video focuses on the design of new and highly sophisticated buildings, it also recognizes that many of these energy efficiency strategies can be incorporated into older facilities.

Some of these improvements for older commercial buildings include:

  • LED lighting systems for general and task lighting
  • Motion and time-of-day controls for lighting and HVAC systems
  • Integration of daylight harvesting strategies
  • High Efficiency Windows with manual and/or automatic shutters
  • Insulation and air sealing of the building envelope
  • Weather stripping of doors and operable windows
  • High efficiency HVAC systems with VFD motors

It would seem to me that a 70% reduction in energy consumption sets the stage for 100% effective alternative to address the remaining 30%. Add storage strategy and for all intents and purposes "you're off the grid". Hell if you're living in a state w/net metering you may even generate revenue 😁
